About Cigars |
A lot of people are involved in producing a first class cigar out of a tiny tobacco seed but they are not all working only in the tobacco industry. There are also others who want to participate in the "cigar business": Forgery.
Everywhere in the world copies appear and it is not neecessary to say that one is being cheated with the purchase of these cigars even when they were "cheap".
Especially tourists are making it very easy for the gangs of forgers which are at times organised Mafiosi. Everywhere in the Caribic Islands, in the Domincan Republic, in Brazil, fake cigares are being offered by the boxes to the unkowing. The potential customers are being approached with virtually adventurous stories, the cigars are virtually forced onto them - and of course at a (seemingly) cheap price.
Every dollar that is paid for these cigars is one dollar too many, because whatever is rolled into the cover sheet of these cigars extends from the waste tobacco to leaves of other plants to mouldy tobacco left overs. There you can really say, "Smoking damages your health!"
How do you recognise a fake cigar? It is no problem for an expert, he knows what stamps have to be attached, in what state the cover sheet of certain brands has to be in, how the print on the band of the cigar has to look like.
Tourists who would possibly like to bring something home for their friends, but otherwise have nothing to do with cigars, can very easily be fooled. But if you pay attention to the most important rule, you can avoid the greatest danger: Never purchase on the streets and even then never from private people, it doesn't matter what you are being told. You can be 100% sure they are fakes that they are trying to sell you. The people offering them to you can be ever so friendly and pleasant.
Smokers should warn their friends and family not to have them bring back anything like that, it is wasted money, to buy on the streets, even if the case only costs $70. Because it is not even worth that much.
